Maumee Township's First Incorporated Town
Woodburn was platted in 1865 by Joseph Edgerton and Joseph Smith along the Wabash Railroad -- first as Phelps Station, then renamed for the wood burnings used to clear the land -- and became the first town incorporated in Maumee Township, which takes its name from the same Maumee River system that runs through Fort Wayne.
